NAACP Portland Launches New Event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Portland, OR– NAACP Portland branch presents Power in Pink: Celebrating our Resilience- a Facebook Live event on October 23 at 4 p.m.

NAACP’s African American Women’s Initiative Manager, Tai Harden-Moore has facilitated this event in an effort to showcase the significant disparities Black women face when it comes to breast cancer screening and treatment. Forty-two percent of Black women are more likely to die of the disease than white women. Together with NAACP Portland, Harden-Moore is addressing these gaps, shine a spotlight on the statistics and hold healthcare systems accountable.

Education, music, special guest

This breast cancer awareness month, join Harden-Moore, NAACP President, Sharon Gary-Smith, musical talent, LaRhonda Steele and Arietta Ward, and other special guests, for an hour of education and celebration of the power and resilience of Black women affected by breast cancer.

“As a Black woman living with metastatic breast cancer, I know how important it is that we address these disparities and save the lives of Black women like me,” said Harden-Moore. “I am so excited that the African American Women’s Initiative has found a home at Portland’s NAACP, back in the hands of the Black community, where we can embark on this important work together as a community.”
