The FBI recorded a meeting in Aruba, where Joran Van der Sloot asked for $250,000 in exchange for providing information about the disappearance of student Natalee Holloway in 2005, reports the Associated Press. Watch the video here.
Van der Sloot is currently in jail in Lima Peru, where he stands accused of murdering another young woman, Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old business student, on May 30. Authorities say he has confessed to killing her in a rage after she went onto his computer and discovered he was a suspect in Holloway's disappearance. The UK newspaper, The Guardian reports that Van der Sloot denies the crime and told his mother the Peruvian police were using "barbaric" methods to force him to confess.
Van der Sloot allegedly approached a friend of Natalee Holloway's family six weeks ago, offering information about where the missing woman's body is buried. The FBI have acknowledged transferring $15,000 into his Dutch bank account on May 10, four days before he traveled from Colombia to Peru. The money transfer was part of a sting operation. According to UK's Guardian newspaper, Van der Sloot was a gambler who may have been planning to take part in the Latin America Poker Tour tournament – with a prize of $1million.
Instead another young woman was found murdered in his Lima hotel room, five years to the day after Natalee Holloway disappeared. Peruvian police have released video of Van der Sloot and Ms. Flores entering the room. Three hours later Van der Sloot left the hotel alone, leaving a do not disturb sign on the door. Stephany Flores body was later discovered in the room. She had been beaten to death.
